Wedding invitation messages for WhatsApp you can copy

Ready invitation messages for WhatsApp, grouped by who is receiving them. Formal English for elders, Hindi for your parents' circle, Hinglish for the cousins.

A phone screen showing a wedding invitation message and link in a WhatsApp chat

Almost every wedding invitation on WhatsApp is sent the same way. One message, one card image, one link, pushed out to three hundred people whose only shared quality is that they are in your contacts. Your dadi gets the same words as your college roommate. It works, in the sense that people find out. It also reads like a notice from the housing society.

A message written for one person gets answered. A message written for everyone gets a thumbs up and then nothing. So the messages below are sorted by who is receiving them, because that is the only sorting that changes anything. Copy one, fill in the brackets, send it.

The mistake almost everyone makes

Forwarding. Not sending, forwarding. You write one good message, send it to your brother, then long press and push it down the whole contact list. WhatsApp stamps a small double arrow on it that reads Forwarded, and the people most likely to notice that stamp are exactly the ones whose feelings you were trying to protect.

The practical cost is worse than the social one. A forwarded message carries nobody's name, so nobody feels individually asked, so nobody replies. Then your mother spends four days on the phone explaining who is invited to which function.

Write five versions and send the right one to the right set of people. That is the entire technique, and it costs about twenty minutes.

Two WhatsApp messages side by side, one marked Forwarded and one starting with the guest's name
Left, what three hundred people received. Right, what one person received.

What a good message actually contains

Who is inviting, what the occasion is, when and where, and what you want the reader to do next. Nothing else goes in the chat. Not the muhurat timing to the minute, not the hotel booking code, not all six functions.

This is a length problem, not a taste problem. WhatsApp collapses long messages behind a Read more link, and a wall of grey text gets scrolled past on the way to the next chat. Four lines and a link. The link carries the schedule that will change twice, the map that stops the phone calls, and the RSVP that decides your catering count, which is the whole job of the invitation page the message points at.

Put their name in the first line

A message that starts with a name gets read. A message that starts with With great pleasure gets scrolled. This holds even for people you speak to daily, and it holds much harder for people you have not spoken to since the last family wedding.

Every message below ends in a link because the link does the heavy lifting. If yours opens a compressed JPEG that nobody can read on a small screen, the careful writing is wasted at the last step, which is why how you send a wedding invitation on WhatsApp decides as much as what you write in it.

WhatsApp messages for elders and your parents' friends

Send these from a parent's phone where you can. An invitation from the family reads differently from one sent by the couple, and for this group it matters.

From a parent, formal

With the blessings of our elders, we invite you to the wedding of our daughter [Name] with [Name] on [date] at [venue]. Your presence would mean a great deal to our family. The full programme and directions are here: [link]

From a parent, to a close family friend

Respected [Uncle], [Parent's name] here. [Name]'s wedding is on [date] in [city]. We are inviting you with all our heart, and we hope you can stay for all three days. Everything is on this page: [link]

To a teacher, mentor or family doctor

Bade papa, [Name]'s wedding date is fixed. [Date] at [venue]. Please block all three days, we want the whole family there from the first function. Full details: [link]

When you have booked their room

Chachi, sending you our invite. Sangeet on [date], wedding on [date]. Rooms are booked for family, so tell me how many are coming and I will hold yours: [link]

To a cousin you actually like

Shaadi is [date] to [date]. You are not a guest, you are on duty. Details, dress code and the RSVP are here, do it now so I can stop chasing: [link]

To a relative you have lost touch with

Hello [Name], it has been too long. I am getting married on [date] at [venue] and I would really like you to be there. Here is everything: [link]

Messages for your own friends

The straight one

It is happening. [Date], [city]. You are on the short list of people I actually want in the room. Everything you need is here: [link]

When they need to take leave

Wedding is [date] to [date] in [city]. Apply for your leave now, not in [month], because you will not get it later. Hotel info is on the link too: [link]

To one close friend

[Date]. I am getting married. I want you there for the whole thing, not just the reception. Tell me your dates and I will sort the rest: [link]

To a friend who is bringing someone

You are invited plus one. [Date] to [date] at [venue]. Put both names in the RSVP so the seating does not become my problem: [link]

Messages for work

Two separate jobs: telling people you will be gone, and inviting them. Put both in one message and the invitation gets read as an FYI.

To your manager

Hi [Name], sharing this early so you can plan around it. I am getting married on [date] and will be away from [date] to [date]. You are very welcome at the reception on [date]: [link]

To your team

Team, I am getting married on [date]. The reception is on [date] evening at [venue] and all of you are invited. Please RSVP on the link so I can give the final count: [link]

To a client or vendor

Dear [Name], I will be on leave from [date] to [date] for my wedding. [Colleague] will cover everything in the meantime. If you are in [city] on [date], you are warmly invited: [link]

To a colleague you are close to

Not sending this on the group. I am getting married on [date] and I want you at the sangeet, not just the reception. Details here: [link]

Messages for guests flying in

Send these first, before anyone else. Flights, leave and visa appointments are queues nobody controls, and a guest who hears late has effectively been uninvited.

First message, early

Wedding is [date] in [city]. Sending this early because of flights and leave. If you need any letter or document for a visa, tell me and I will send it: [link]

When they can only come for part of it

I know it is a long flight. If you can make only one function, come for the [function] on [date], that is the one I want you at. Full programme: [link]

Time zone warning

All timings on this page are IST, so please check twice before you book. The schedule is on the link and it stays updated: [link]

Messages for one function only

Not everyone is invited to everything, and being vague about it creates the awkward conversation you were trying to avoid. Name the function plainly.

Haldi is on [date] at [time], at [venue]. Wear something you do not mind ruining. It is a small one, family and close friends only: [link]

Reception

Reception on [date] from [time] at [venue]. Come whenever you can, stay as long as you like. Directions and parking are on the link: [link]

Wedding invitation messages in Hindi for WhatsApp

Send Hindi to anyone who replies to you in Hindi. Do not send a Hindi message and an English message to the same person, which is what happens when the whole list gets everything. If the formal wording itself is the part you are stuck on, that is a separate question and it is answered in wedding invitation wording by tradition.

Finally date aa gayi. [Date], [city]. Save kar lo, baar baar mat poochna. Sab yahan hai: [link]

Messages for a group

A group message is a notice board. It stops people asking for the date. It does not make anyone feel invited, so send the elders in that group a separate message anyway.

Family group

Putting the wedding details here so nobody has to ask again. [Date] to [date] at [venue]. Please open the link once and RSVP, it takes ten seconds: [link]

College or school group

Right, [date] to [date] in [city]. Everyone on this group is invited. Book your leave, book your travel, RSVP here so I know who is actually coming: [link]

Office group

Sharing this here since it is easier. Reception on [date] at [venue], from [time]. All of you are invited, do RSVP on the link: [link]

The reminder, and the cousin who loses everything

Chasing replies is its own job, with its own rules about timing and tone, and getting guests to RSVP covers it properly. The messages here are the short version.

Only remind the people who have not replied

A reminder landing on someone who already answered reads as though you did not notice them. That is worse than not reminding at all. Check the list, then send.
RSVP reminder with a reason

Small nudge. We have to give the caterer a final count by [date], so please confirm on the link if you have not already. One tap and you are done: [link]

When you need a no as much as a yes

Hi [Name], I have not got your RSVP yet. If you cannot make it, please still tell me. A clear no genuinely helps more than silence: [link]

Last one

Last reminder, promise. Please confirm here by [date]: [link]

For the one who will ask again anyway

Saving you the search: [date], [venue], [city]. Pin this message. Maps, timings and everything else are here: [link]

Re-sending, without the sarcasm

Re-sending because I know it got buried. Wedding is [date]. Hotel, map and schedule are all on this one page: [link]

The day before, and the day after

Night before

Tomorrow. [Function] at [time] at [venue]. Parking is at [place]. Anything you have forgotten is on the link: [link]

Baraat timing

Baraat leaves [venue] at [time] sharp. Please be downstairs by [time], we are not waiting for anyone. Map: [link]

Thank you, after

Thank you for being there. It would not have felt the same without you. Photos are going up on the same link: [link]

One last thing worth doing before you send any of these. Paste the link into a chat with yourself and look at what appears underneath it. If the preview is a grey box with a truncated URL, fix that first, because that grey box is the first thing three hundred people will see.

Questions people ask

What should a WhatsApp wedding invitation message actually say?

Who is inviting, what the occasion is, when and where, and one link. Four lines is enough. WhatsApp hides long messages behind a Read more link and most people never tap it, so the schedule, the map and the dress code belong on the page, not in the chat.

Is it rude to invite people to a wedding on WhatsApp?

No, and it has not been for years. What reads as rude is a forwarded message with nobody's name in it. Call the handful of people who would be genuinely hurt to hear it from a chat, and message everyone else.

Should the message be in Hindi or English?

Send each person the language they reply to you in. If your father answers his own WhatsApp in Hindi, he should get Hindi. Hinglish is the right register for cousins and friends and is usually wrong for your parents' friends.

How far ahead should I send the WhatsApp invite?

Four to six weeks for guests in the same city. Two to three months for anyone booking a flight or taking leave. If the wedding falls in the busy winter run of dates, send earlier, because the same people are being invited to two other weddings that weekend.

Can I just post the invite in the family group?

Yes, and you should, but treat it as a notice board rather than an invitation. Post it once in the group so nobody has to ask for the date again, then send the elders in that group an individual message anyway.

What do I do about people who never RSVP?

Send one reminder, only to the people who have not answered, with a deadline and a reason for the deadline. After that, call. Some guests will never tap a link and there is no message that fixes it.
